While the Protect Coit Tower Committee's proposal to "preserve" Coit Tower with a ballot measure (really, it's all about parking) is backed by the ridiculously powerful neighborhood group Telegraph Hill Dwellers and the local Democratic party, it isn't backed by the Parks and Rec department and some SF planners. The board of directors of the SF Planning and Urban Research Association voted 21-1 to oppose the measure yesterday. The measure (which is very vague and loosely worded) seeks to "prioritize" funds raised at the tower for its upkeep and "strictly limit" private events at the tower. [SF Examiner]
