At a Bay Area Toll Authority meeting yesterday Caltrans officials said that the opening date of the new Bay Bridge will be on or just after Labor Day 2013, which is about 19 months away. Bart Nay, a Caltrans spokesman, said the opening will be preceded by a multiple-day closure of the bridge while crews rebuild and reconfigure the approach, landing and access from the toll plaza. "That's before you get into any celebration," he said. "And there will probably be a celebration." [SFGate/photo via Whole Wheat Toast]
