The Department of Public Health shut down work on the corner of 16th Street and South Van Ness Avenue where condos are being developed, the site is the location of a former gas station and officials determined that gas odors could be smelled throughout the vicinity. JCN Developers is building a 7-story, 84-unit residential building on the site. Nearby residents say that they started to smell odors after the developer removed soil contaminated by underground gasoline tanks that had already been removed. [Mission Local/photo via Shutterstock]
