Pacific Rod and Gun Club Drama Continues

The Board of Supervisors will vote on a new lease agreement for the Pacific Rod and Gun Club today. As you may recall, the site has been steeped in drama since the club's lease was taken over by the Public Utilities Commission in May, who demanded they do a soil cleanup of all the ammunition that's accumulated over the past 80 years. PUC estimates the cleanup will cost about $10.5 million, while the club says its more like $5M. Since they couldn't reach a deal, PUC evicted the club - until a temporary month-to-month lease was proposed. That lease is up for approval tomorrow, along with improved insurance, indemnity, and other city provisions. Supervisor Elsbernd, who represents the club's district, says public discussion on the best use of the 14-acre plot should now be in order. It isn't quite smooth sailing yet - another stipulation of the lease is that either party can withdraw at any time, with a 90-day notification.
