Pagoda Theater Station

Muni's had a change of heart on how to finish the Central Subway and it's big news for North Beach. Current plans have the city removing the drilling equipment near Washington Square, something that left no one happy. North Beach residents feared the construction would disrupt business as usual and the rest of the city was annoyed that we were spending $1.6B for a subway to Chinatown with no stop in North Beach. Well, there's a new Muni chief in town; Ed Reiskin announced today that he favors purchasing the Pagoda Theater and creating a North Beach stop and finally putting the theater out of its misery. Even if that plan falls through, Reiskin says the drilling equipment should be left in the ground for a more hopeful future. [SFGate] - Victor Obeck
