Pop-Ups Not So Hot Right Now

Large national retailers are trying to cash in on pop-up stores this holiday season, but many are having trouble breaking into the San Francisco market. Retail vacancies are down to 3.1% and projected to drop even lower before 2013, making landlords less eager to lease out temporary spaces. Most pop-up leases last for 3 months, with a month-to-month agreement after that. Now it looks like larger stores are opening up smaller holiday pop-up back-ups - Uniqlo, Gap, and Sports Basement are all slated to have holiday pop-up locations in the city.
