A Look Back at the Twin Peaks Tavern

The history of the Twin Peaks Tavern, set to become one of the city's few LGBT historic landmarks, has been highlighted by Castro Biscuit. The Supervisor's Land Use and Economic Development Committee will soon hear a proposed ordinance to landmark the site for its significance as the first gay bar in San Francisco to feature large expanses of glass, as opposed to hiding bar patrons behind shutters. If designated, it'll be one of only 3 local landmarks associated with LGBT history (the other 2 being the Castro Camera/Harvey Milk Residence and the Jose Theater/Names Project Building).
