Square Inc, of little smartphone credit card swiper contraption thingies fame, is joining the Mid-Market bandwagon and bringing 1,000 of its employees to 1455 Market Street. The building has been a data center and back-office facility for Bank of America for the past few years, but will undergo some major changes like 49 new windows cut into the exteriors, large roof decks, lawns and "amenities common in condo buildings such as bocce courts, fire pits and cabanas." Since it was an old data center, the building features massive 100,000-square-foot floor plates, perfect for hip open concept office design. The plan is still in design development by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson (of Apple stores fame), so no renderings yet, but we'll be sure to share them once they're made available.
