Treasure Island Water Back on Tap

A water main ruptured Friday afternoon, leaving Treasure Island residents without service for about 12 hours, and then required them to boil drinking water until today. Lab tests today confirmed the water was fine, so the boiling notice has been lifted. The SFPUC alerted residents to flush their pipes and run water taps a few minutes before resuming use. The 18 inch cast iron water main likely broke due to age, since it was likely an original pipe part of the infrastructure built in the 1930s when the U.S. Navy inhabited the island.
