Supes Focus on Foreclosures

Today the Board of Supervisors will take a final vote to approve an ordinance for additional penalties for foreclosed properties. Proposed by Supervisor Cohen, the new Police Code amendments would impose penalties on owners of foreclosed properties that let their buildings fall into disrepair, causing tenants and neighbors to deal with things like mold, lack of heat, and vulnerability to squatters and blight. They'll be subject to "public nuisance" civil actions, which include fees for code violations. It'll also make people who own more than 10 foreclosed properties liable for up the 3x the penalties.
