Supes Committee Approves Union Square Station

New, 1 comment

The Board of Supervisor's Land Use and Economic Development committee unanimously approved the plans for the Union Square subway station as part of the Central Subway project yesterday. The vote will now go to the full Board for final approval, despite the lawsuit filed by the hilariously misnomered SaveMuni which argues that construction on Union Square violated a clause in the city charter that requires voter approval of any structure built and maintained on park property for non-recreational purposes. The Supes weren't having it, saying the new subway station will contribute to the recreational use of Union Square and its design will have a minimal impact. [SF Appeal/Previously on Curbed SF]
