San Francisco was awarded two $300,000 Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grants to develop new plans for mixed-use housing at sites in Potrero Hill and Sunnydale. Bridge Housing Corp. and Sunnydale Development Co. will both start the design process to each build a new mixed-use development, after which they'll be eligible for more funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The two projects are the only ones in a city of the 17 grants that received funding. The Potrero Hill project will redesign the existing 606 units of the public housing at the Potrero Terrace and Potrero Annex sites into a community that has 1,600 units of public, workforce and market-rate housing, while the Sunnydale project will convert 785 units of public housing into 1,000 affordable rental units and 700 affordable and market-rate for-sale units.
