Controversy in the Castro

New, 2 comments

Back in early September, verbal and written requests were sent to the Merchants of Upper Market and Castro to fly the Transgender Pride flag at Harvey Milk Plaza in the Castro on November 20 for Transgender Day of Remembrance. The requests were denied. In a letter from Cliff's Variety Store owner Terry Bennet and President of the MUMC, Bennet wrote "The request is not approved and there will be no change in the Rainbow Flag display on November 20." No word yet on why the MUMC denied the request. [Castro Biscuit/photo via David Sweet]
