The city's Planning Department's Property Information Map is one of 111 certified Bright Ideas in Government, determined by Harvard University. The website provides "public access to useful property information & resources at the click of a mouse." We use it quite a bit here at the Curbed SF HQ. You can look up any address in San Francisco and see all sorts of "juicy" information like permits and complaints on the property; fun stuff if you're a noisy neighbor. [SFGate]
