"It's outrageous to think that while small builders are facing foreclosure, bureaucrats would come up with a wild and crazy idea to pass further excessive fees," president of the Residential Builders Association Sean Keighran said. There's a proposal to slap new home builders with a fee that would be used towards transportation projects. The ordinance is backed by the Office of Economic and Workforce Development and the SFMTA, and would require new home builders to pay $5.53 per square foot for new residential construction. Think about it like this: If a developer wanted to build a 1,200 square foot single-family home, they'd have to shell out $6,636 on top of the fees they already pay to build in SF.
