Banners Causing a Stir

If you've been on Market Street lately you've probably seen the banners along the street promoting reproductive rights, with slogans like "U.S. Out of My Uterus." As expected, a pro-life group called Life Legal Defense Foundation isn't fond of the banners, and has demanded that the city take them down. The group told the Department of Public Works that the banners are illegal because they're not promoting a particular event, as required by city code. But perhaps the Life Legal Defense Foundation doesn't have to push the city to take down the banners. Ellen Shaffer, co-founder of Choice SF, told the Chronicle that vandals have ripped down 27 of the 72 banners already. [SFGate/image via Shutterstock]
