Fun Fact: BART's fleet is about to turn 40 and is the oldest in the nation. In May, BART will buy 260 new rail cars for approximately $1B. If transit officials are stoked about the new cars and they can come up with the cash money, they'll buy another 515 cars. "Even on the most optimistic schedule, by the time we are able to replace all of our cars, many of them will be 50 years old," Paul Oversier, BART's assistant general manager for operations told the Chronicle.
