Weekend Open House Report: Under 1,000 Square Foot Single-Family Home Edition

New, 4 comments

Location: 219 Gennessee Street, Sunnyside
Size: 2-bed, 1-bath; 900-square feet
Price: $615,000
Pitch: "Behind the Victorian facade lies a contemporary update for the first time buyer. There has been extensive remodeling providing a move-in condition and fresh style. This home is conveniently located near shopping, dining and offers easy access to the Glen Park Bart station, Muni, HWYS 101 and 280. Welcome Home!!"
Our Take: We're loving the gigantic kitchen, and suspect it'd be where everyone would gather when guests were over. The skylight in the kitchen is also lovely. The backyard is big and has planter beds, so you could grow your own veggies, and has two huge trees.
Open House: Saturday and Sunday, 2 to 4PM

Location: 101 Melrose Avenue, Glen Park
Size: 3-bed, 2-bath; 810-square feet
Price: $699,000
Pitch: "This lovely semi-detached corner home boasts many features perfect for today's living including period detailing, hardwood flooring, and panoramic views from the rear of the property. The entry level has a gracious living room with fireplace and built-in book shelves; eat in kitchen; full bath; and two bedrooms-- one with access to a deck which leads down to the beautiful terraced garden. In addition there is a bonus master suite which also opens onto the decks and garden. Best of all this lovely home is close to BART, and both Miraloma Park and Glen Park neighborhoods and all of the shops, and restaurants they have to offer."
Our Take: This is definitely the most modern out of the bunch. You're not going to find any fancy parquet flooring or ornate mouldings in this home. The only beef we have is that that canary yellow wall color that's sprinkled about needs to go- especially in the bathroom.
Open House: Sunday, 2 to 4PM

Location: 1574 20th Avenue, Central Sunset
Size: 2-bed, 1-bath; 950-square feet
Price: $595,000
Pitch: "Central Sunset home located just 1.5 blocks to Judah Street MUNI lines & 19th Avenue buses. This newly remodeled home offers living room w/ fireplace, formal dining room, two bedrooms in the back & beautifully brand new remodeled kitchen & bath. Two car garage with lots of storage space or room for future expansion. Conveniently located close to Irving Street shops and restaurants, Golden Gate Park, and UCSF."
Our Take: This home was built in 1924 and still maintains some of its original charm. The built-in bookcases that act like bookends to the fireplace create a focal point out of a wall. The garage, oh my. It's huge!
Open House: Sunday, 2 to 4PM
