Let Me Google That For You

New, 2 comments

You might think that a contract worth $700,000 would require some sort of portfolio review, reference check, or G-D Google search. But no, we have another San Francisco entity, this time the SF General Hospital, surprised that they awarded loads of money to a guy who shot a dog and called it art. What really baffles us here is not the award -- people can disagree on whether the artist deserves a second chance or not, or whether the grant should have been awarded to a local artist -- but that no one even had a clue that Tom Otterness is controversial. You think with all the citing they do of his New York Subway work, that at some point, public protests about his past would have come up in casual conversation. Otterness has already been paid $365,750 for his work at SFGH, which is now pending review. [SF Appeal]
