"These programs will not only provide enhanced convenience and less congestion and pollution associated with one's search for parking, but also allow us to optimize the use of our parking facilities," said San Francisco transportation chief Ed Reiskin. If you're gunning for a parking spot in a city-owned garage, chances are that it's now a part of SFPark's texting program that tells you the address, hours of operation, pricing, and number of spaces currently available within 14 public lots. Each garage has a code (Union Square garage is USQ), and you send a text to 877877, then in the message field, type USQ and hit send. But, you know, don't text while driving.
