Please Watch The Closing Doors

Chiang's initial concept was a red canopy, tall and broad, stretched above the descent to the concourse like some right-angled umbrella. John King weighs in on the planned entrance at Union Square to the Central Subway. The current version, in the corner of the plaza/parking garage/skating rink at Geary & Stockton, blends into the existing plaza and will get covered in vines. No word on how many parking spaces will be lost, but there will be two elevators and a escalator. Of course, whether there will be a Central Subway to descend into- or rise out of- is another matter altogether. [John King/SFGate. Image credit: SFMTA. Plus more Central Subway coverage at Curbed SF]
