No Bungee Jumping Off the Golden Gate Bridge

New, 16 comments

"I've never bungee jumped before, and I'm actually afraid of heights," said Lori Galina. "But I honestly can't think of a better way to bring attention to what my family is experiencing." Lori Galina wants to bungee jump off the Golden Gate Bridge in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer and congestive heart failure. If she gets to bungee jump off the Bridge, she'll ask people to donate money to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. But the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District isn't having it. The district's more than willing to offer up a special-event permit for an event involving running or walking, but not for events that raise safety and security concerns. Galina hasn't given up hope yet. She said she's reached out to the Governor's Office for special permission, and she's trying to rally local support for her cause. "I've got my heart dead-set on doing this," Galina said. "I want the people of San Francisco to show they have heart, too, by letting me jump off that bridge."
