More Cabs, Higher Fares

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's Board of Directors have voted to increase the number of taxicabs on city streets and increase city taxi fares, SFMTA spokesman Paul Rose said. The new flag drop rate has been increased from $3.10 to $3.50. Rose said there are currently around 1,500 authorized taxis driving in SF. In 90 days, paperwork will be completed for the issuance of 85 new taxi medallions. [SF Appeal/photo via Nick Fisher]
