Mayor Lee was at the Police Department's bimonthly CompStat meeting this morning and announced that various city departments are working to provide a free weeklong camping trip at Camp Mather at the end of the month for 50 youths who are at risk of joining a game or a life of crime. Paul Henderson, Lee's policy advisor on public safety, said the camping trip is in response to a series of shootings in the Mission District earlier this year. Police Chief Greg Suhr was with Lee when he made the announcement, and added that the camp would not be "a gang camp? we're claiming the kids before they make that decision."
