Cleaning Up Lake Tahoe

"It's not by any means an easy goal," Jared Blumenfeld, the regional administrator for the EPA, said in an interview, "but we all concur that it is achievable." Gov. Jerry Brown and the governor of Nevada worked together to sign a pact with the feds intended to increase the clarity of Lake Tahoe by half a foot per year. If done correctly, Lake Tahoe will be visible to a depth of almost 100 feet over 65 years. How will it happen? The federal Environmental Protection Agency will monitor the amount of fine sediment that enters the water each day. [SF Gate/photo via Flickr]
