Red Vic Calls It Quits

Very sad news for the Red Vic Movie House and its fans. The theater is permanently closing later this month, on its 31st birthday. "Our closure is 100 percent certain at this point," said co-owner Claudia Lehan. "On July 25th, our birthday screening of 'Harold and Maude' will be our last, I'm sad to say." Although the Red Vic did host several benefits and individuals donors contributors to keeping it alive, the theater just can't compete with modern factors like Netflix and on-demand TV and movies. The San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Foundation estimates that 25 to 30 neighborhood theaters have closed in the past 30 years. [SF Gate/photo via Pistols Drawn]
