Cash-Strapped

The Bayview Opera House Ruth Williams Memorial Theatre, which was recently inducted to the National Register of Historic Places, is in dire need of repairs. First it was discovered that fungus had been eating away at the south wall for decades. Then it flooded. "The more we explored, the more extensive (the damage) was," said Judy Nemzoff, the San Francisco Arts Commission's community arts and education program director. Under SF's proposed budget for the new fiscal year, the wall will get a $500,000 overhaul, which will be added to the $3M building renovation. [SF Gate/Photo Credit: David Green/Found SF]
