A design for a long-overdue Veterans Memorial has been chosen. Memorial Court had plans back in the 1920s that were never completed, so the Memorial Board of Trustees recently held a national design competition. The new design includes an open walkway over reflective pools and a basalt wall inscribed with the poem "The Young Dead Soldiers Do Not Speak" by WWI vet Archibald MacLeish. The tentative dedication date for the new memorial is Veterans Day 2013, after going through the environmental review process. [SF Appeal]
