Getting Wet: Catch a Ride on an Oracle Racer

We recommend watching this "Full Screen".

So far, we've only caught glimpses of the high-speed multi-hulls that Oracle Racing is using in the Bay, but here's a chance for mere members of the public to join the fun on the boats Oracle raced in the 2003 America's Cup. AC Sailing SF is taking bookings for individuals and groups of civilians to join a racing crew for a few high-speed hours in the wind and fog (hey, it's summer here). For the more sedate among us, there's the America, a 1995 reproduction of the original schooner that took the trophy away from Britain in 1851 and renamed it America's Cup. Champagne and canapes are available for the classic boat, probably for groups of up to twenty.

The boats are based in San Francisco at the Golden Gate Yacht Club. Check out AC Sailing's site for booking details as they develop- the San Diego-based company has only just begun the tours here and expect to offer them through September, returning again in 2012 and 2013.
