Parklet Party

Let the games begin! Parklets are back with a new proposal process which includes an extended deadline and savings for proposals that don't take away metered parking. 27 parklet permits were issued last fall, and applications are expected to climb as local businesses clamor for more pedestrian friendly space on the streets. Parklets popping up in the Tenderloin to replace the closed-for-renovation Boeddeker Park are expected to include things like stenciling, mobile gardens in wheelbarrows, and concrete furniture "arranged in a geometry that provides a variety of space,” whatever that means. Other possible parklet locations: Upper Haight near both Alembic Bar and Magnolia Pub. [SF Streetsblog]
