Temporary Sidewalk Closure

New, 1 comment

On May 29, the west sidewalk of the Golden Gate Bridge, which is reserved for bicyclists and open on weekdays, is closing for four months for seismic repairs. It'll makes for more congestion, as the east sidewalk is already clogged with tourists and cyclists, especially on sunny weekends. This is why the Board of Directors is flirting with the idea of imposing a speed limit for bikes on the bridge. The board is also looking at a way to stripe the east sidewalk to help keep the cyclists and pedestrians somewhat separate. "It's definitely going to make for an interesting summer," said Mary Currie, a bridge district spokeswoman. [SF Gate/photo via Chris Saulit]
