No one has ever done this before? This is the first time an America's Cup will ever be seen from shore, so it's all new and a little bit unpredictable Says Mark Buell, profiled in today's Chronicle. The man in charge of raising millions to offset local expenses for the race is also the chairman of the Rec & Parks Commission, a major Democratic fundraiser, and on a few boards around town. If anyone's going to succeed at launching the charm offensive required to pull this off, it's him. He also points out that some 2,000 people will be moving here for two years to work on the race, and we have to find places for them to live and schools for their kids to go to.
