Oakland Wants Parklets

New, 1 comment

It's been just over a year since San Francisco installed its first parklet, and now Oakland wants to jump on the bandwagon. Oakland Local reports that the "city of Oakland took the first step to creating such a permit last Thursday, when a group of staff from various departments met and agreed to proceed with a proposal for a pilot parklets program. If the group is able to assemble a draft ordinance, and the ordinance is approved by the City Council before its July recess parklets could be permitted in Oakland as early as September." The owner of Actual Cafe in North Oakland has assembled a parklet already, and hopes to soon score a permanent home for it in an out-of-service bus stop next to the cafe. [Oakland Local]
