The new North Beach library has taken another step forward in approval. The Rec and Park and Library commissions held a joint meeting yesterday, and approved the new plan unanimously. The plan includes building a new library and adding open space, which also means tearing down the 1959 old library, built by the firm Appleton-Wolfard. The firm has a dedicated following who is protesting, and possibly ligating, on the issue. A public hearing in June is next, where we can expect NIMBY's, architecture-lovers and book-lovers alike.
