Making Room For What's Next

The San Francisco Chronicle building at Fifth and Mission streets is quickly becoming home to tech companies who are leasing space from Hearst, the Chronicle's parent company and the building's owner. The Chronicle has occupied the building for close to 90 years, but recently started leasing out empty areas of their building since its staff continues to shrink. When technology company Square moved into the building in late 2009, they had 10 employees. Now they have 100, and occupy what used to be The Chronicle's human resource department. Signs of the times? We think so. [The Bay Citizen/photo via Sergio]
