Park Problems

A plan to close Golden Gate and McLaren parks at night has hit a road bump, even though late-night violence broke out last weekend, reports the SF Examiner. One of Mayor Gavin Newsom's final pieces of legislation before he left us for Sacramento was to close the two parks between 1 and 5a.m. daily. The legislation has stalled because there isn't enough support for it, said Recreation and Park Department Director Phil Ginsburg. But Supervisor Carmen Chu, whose District 4 neighbors Golden Gate Park, thinks differently. "[Newsom] unfortunately left and he wasn't able to follow up on that legislation," Chu said. "I would't say that it's not moving forward because of lack of support, but that this was proposed in a time of a lot of transition." [SF Examiner]
