Downtown Park Merced?

New, 6 comments

Next week the Planning Commission will take a look at a huge redevelopment plan for Park Merced - both in cost ($1,200,000,000) and scale. The plan calls for "urbanizing" Park Merced -- making things like walkable neighborhoods possible by packing 14,000 more people and fewer cars into the area. Park Merced was constructed back in the 40's to feel like one big park back when people pretty much hated on cities. What's unclear here is whether people who live in Park Merced actually want corner stores with their $5 eggs, or if the developers are just trying to cash in on current planning trends. [SF Gate]
