Today the California Historical Society is celebrating its new California Ephemera Project, which is an online tool that lets you search its huge collection of ephemera from the 1850s to present day. Documents like tickets, menus, Valentines, etc are now searchable. The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Historical Society, San Francisco Public Library, and the Society of California Pioneers have also added ephemera to the collection. "I have a very simple definition of ephemera," said David Crosson, executive director of the California Historical Society. "It's the stuff we throw away that documents our non-throwaway lives? It documents the way people have lived daily lives in this area for hundreds of years." [SF Gate, California Ephemera Project]
