HANC Watch

Mayor Ed Lee is going to let the Department of Parks and Recreation go ahead with getting rid of the controversial recycling center in Golden Gate Park. The Haight Ashbury Neighborhood Center (HANC) has been accused of causing theft and violence in the neighborhood from people trying to gather up all the valuable recyclables they can. Proponents, like the illustrious Danny Glover, have been trading in their bottles and cans for cold hard cash for years, and think HANC is a valuable part of the community. The fight is far from over, but "technically" the HANC lease is up March 4, according to Parks and Rec. [SF Gate]
