Slum Lord Behaving Very, Very Badly

New, 2 comments

Millionaire and Tiburon resident Rich Singer has been arrested for allegedly plotting to torch his Oakland Menlo Hotel for insurance money. SFist reports that this is just one of the many ways Singer has tried to get hotel residents out of the building. This past December Singer had the building's property managers, RMD Services, send out fake 30-day eviction notices. That plan didn't go so well, so Singer attempted to pay someone $65,000 to torch the hotel on January 15th, which would have been the last day tenants had to move out according to the fake eviction notice. An employee at RMD tipped of officials about Singer's scheme, which prompted authorities to arrest Singer. He's facing ten years in prison, a $125,000 fine and arson charges. [SFist]
