There's been an uptick in family homelessness in San Francisco, and one couple's doing what they can to help out. Marc and Lynne Benioff of salesforce.com has given the city a private grant of $1.5M to provide housing for homeless families, and the grant is being matched by city funds. Supervisor John Avalos, who yesterday held a committee hearing on the topic of family homelessness, said that there are 253 families currently on the waiting list for long-term shelter and the the city "is not providing the adequate response" to the problem.
