Concerns that the Rec & Park Department would make you open your wallet before you spread your blanket in Dolores Park turned out to be just a tiny bit overblown. As the Examiner reports, the $100 deposit is simply for use of the picnic tables and would be returned assuming the picnic spots were left in the order in which parkgoers found them. Of course, there's still a $27 registration fee to reserve a picnic table, but that's been par for the course in popular city parks for awhile now. Laying out your spread on municipal lawns is still free, provided you can find ample blanket space and have fewer than 25 people. [SFExaminer]
