The athletic-apparel store Athleta, which is owned by Gap Inc., is fit to open at 2226 Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights within the next few weeks. But most neighbors aren't pleased with the new addition. "In my opinion, corporations should be in Union Square," said Miyo Ota, owner of contemporary women's clothing store Mio. Ota fears that the new neighbor could raise the rent in the area and push out small businesses. However, Beverly Weinkauf, who owns a lingerie shop and is vice president of the Fillmore Merchants Association says Athleta is welcome. "It feels a void we have here for those types of goods," she said. [SF Examiner]
