The wonderful but sad-looking Craig Ellwood house in Hillsborough closed escrow yesterday, a month after an offer was accepted. On the market (and off) for two years, the most recent asking price was $2.85M, and it closed for $2.525M. The composition of white-painted steel, glass, marble and travertine overlooks a golf course. Built for Nicholas Daphne, who also commissioned Jones & Emmons to design his eponymous funeral home, and which met its own demise a few years later. Elwoods are rare in these parts; most of his work is in the Los Angeles area.
