Back in the 70s, there was a house on the 100 block of Precita Avenue that had a painted mural of the Beatles on it. A young woman named Jane Weems painted the mural in her spare time between going to high school and playing in her punk band, The Maggots (her parents owned the house). Today, the mural is gone. It has been replaced by a wall of beige paint. Recently a photo was posted to Flickr of the old facade, and it sparked a conversation amongst the commenters about the history of the building, the painting process, and who else was involved. Eventually even Jane Weems herself chimed in. Laughing Squid has the full and fascinating story on their site. [Laughing Squid]
