International sustainable building hero Gavin Newsom has introduced legislation to the Board of Supes that would require owners of "large" commercial buildings to "conduct an energy-efficiency audit every five years and to supply annual updates." The audit would have suggestions on how to make properties more sustainable, like installing very expensive solar panels or sealing windows better. The local branch of the Building Owners and Managers Association support the legislation, although there are skeptics (Ed note: because it sounds freakin' expensive). If approved, the legislation could go into affect as soon as April.
