We suspected that the NIMBYs would come out in full force last night, but thankfully the Target Team was greeted with open arms. Yesterday evening the Target Team hosted a meet and greet with locals at the abandoned Mervyn's at Geary Boulevard and Masonic Avenue, which is where they want to open one of two Target stores in San Francisco. The city isn't the most welcoming to big box chain stores, but Target is willing to go through the special approval process.
Residents spoke up about wanting bike and rideshare possibilities, along with more bus service. Another resident encouraging Target to use renewable energy and alternative energy sources.
Target is also proposing a store at the Metreon. Both stores would provide 200 jobs each. The next step is to pass the initiation phase. Godspeed, Target.
