Theatre Lofts Jetsons Unit Jumps Headfirst Into the Bargain Bin

New, 10 comments

The Theatre Lofts in the Lower Haight, adapted by architect George Hauser, seem to invite a particular brand of flair. Around this time last year, it was an subtly infused blend of underwear models and wireframe butt sculptures. This year, it's a Jetsons-style fireplace by a clear, winding staircase and a transparent mezzanine that's reportedly hung from the ceiling — all the better to "inspire thinking and Tranquility." By which they probably mean shaky legs and nightmares of falling through glass. Even more notable for the 2-bed, 2-bath unit, which covers 1,062 square feet, is the price: $499,000, for $470 per — or as an agent comments on SocketSite, "ridiculous for the building and neighborhood" and "unfortunate for the other unit owners."
