Group Homes Falling to Foreclosure

Seems like the ever-expanding fallout from foreclosures finds a new group of victims every other week. The latest, profiled in the NYT, are elderly people living in group-care homes. The law in California doesn't require owners of residential care homes to tell residents or their families if they're falling behind on mortgage payments. Which leads us to scenes like the one the story opens with, where a couple sergeants knock on a door ready to evict — only to find a bunch of bedridden people and their shocked visitors. [NYT]
