Taking Back High-Speed Rail's Allowance

New, 6 comments

Having failed a lawsuit meant to move high-speed rail's alignment from the South Bay to the East Bay, there's now some rumbling among Peninsula cities to repeal the $9.95 billion in bond money that Prop 1A's sending to the project. But! It's too late to get onto the 2010 ballot, and it'd be a big uphill battle to garner enough statewide support even for a 2012 go at it. OK, concedes the Menlo Park mayor, it'd probably be better just to make sure the project's done right rather than not done at all — but NIMBYs can dream, can't they? [Merc]
